Healthy Face: Mica Pierce

Hi! My name is Mica Pierce and I have lived in Bridgeport almost my whole life. I am married to Rodney Pierce and we have a blended family of 5 children who keep us incredibly busy. I graduated from Bridgeport High School and later from Fairmont State University with a degree in Accounting. I am currently a Supervisory Revenue Officer with IRS as well as a Realtor with Heritage Real Estate Company. I enjoy reading, biking, hiking, and kayaking. Most of the time you will find us at a ball field or basketball court for one of our kids. I truly enjoy being outside especially in the summer and try to spend as much time as possible in the sunshine!

1.What is your favorite motivational/self-help book?

I try to sit down every morning with a devotional and my bible and just take a few minutes to read through the day’s passage. I don’t read a whole lot of self-help books because I have found that all my answers can be found in this one book.

2. Favorite healthy meal?

I love smoothies. I am so bad about not eating breakfast…but I have no problem sipping on a drink throughout the morning. These are super great to throw together fast in the morning as I am walking out the door. It’s also a fantastic alarm clock for the rest of the house!

3. Favorite workout?

My favorite workouts involve weights. After I am done with a lifting session, I feel strong and confident. Whenever I am not feeling motivated to work out, my go to is always to lift weights. I would love to get into hiking more. I’ve gone a handful of times and love to explore different places. It is definitely on my list of things to start doing more of. The best workouts are the ones that don’t actually feel like exercise!

4. How do you fit health and wellness into your busy lifestyle?

It is a daily choice. I can choose to wake up on time and work out or I can choose to sleep in. I tell myself that if I can waste time scrolling through social media for 30 minutes then I can drag myself downstairs and work out for those 30 minutes instead. It’s all about choosing where to put your time in. I have found that living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be the traditional workout everyone thinks it has to be. It can be a walk in the park or spending an early morning kayaking. It can be anything you want it to be as long as it makes you happy and gives you joy.

5. What is your favorite motivational quote?

“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face…we must do that which we think we cannot.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

6. How did your health journey start?

I always say I am a constant work in progress. I have good days and bad days and am always trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. About 12 or so years ago I felt stressed and unhappy with how I felt every day. I knew I had to do something and make a change. I started running and found that it relieved a lot of anxiety that I was holding inside me. I started making better choices in my nutrition…which is the absolute hardest part….and I became much more active than I had ever been. It made a huge difference in how I felt physically and mentally and gave me back the energy I needed to start really enjoying the life I had been incredibly blessed with.

7. What are some easy tiny habits that you recommend people start with on their journey?

The best advice ever given to me was to not look at your fitness or health goals as “all or nothing,” which is kind of hard to do sometimes because we want to be 100% perfect and when we are not we tend to just turn the opposite direction and give up 100%. Give yourself some grace….and be willing to give it often. Start small…drink some water. Go for a walk. Partner with a friend and do the journey together! And remember that what works for you may not work for someone else. Not everyone will understand your journey…don’t worry about what anyone thinks…it’s not their journey…it is yours!
