Here is a 5 day plan split into easy, medium and hard activities for you to try this week.

Take a different route to work
Consume a different media a newspaper/ magazine you would never normally read, TV programme you would never watch, radio station you would never listen to
Sleep the wrong way round in your bed
On your way to work play a game with yourself of counting the number of post boxes you pass/ new car registrations/ men with moustaches etc – this will retune your selective attention. You could even challenge a friend taking a different journey to do the same – a friendly competition!
Go for a walk/ run
Ask someone you know for their top ten books/ films/ songs and give them yours. Each of you should then try something you would never usually read/ watch/ listen to
Make a card or write a letter to someone special
Buy or make breakfast for someone else in the office – a random act of kindness
Swap roles with someone at work or at home, even if just for a short time. For instance, if you are the boss, sit on reception for a while, or if you usually do the cooking while your partner washes up, swap over for the evening


Buy some random ingredients from the supermarket – things you don’t normally buy – and create a meal using the food you have bought
Visit a museum or gallery
Eat something you have convinced yourself that you don’t like but haven’t tried in a while
Invite a few friends round for a meal and ask each of them to bring someone that they know but who is not known to others at the party – a mystery guest dinner party!
Wake up one hour early and do something you never normally have time to do – perhaps a leisurely breakfast with your partner/ kids, or go to the gym/ swimming, or read the paper/ a good book, or play an instrument


Visit your place of birth/ where you used to live as a child and bring back a souvenir of your trip
